Watch Classic TV Shows on AOL for Free

*Update - I’ve since discovered that when you install the HI-Q software to download and watch the DVD-quality TV shows, a service, kservice.exe, is installed that is known to hog bandwidth. If you start to notice that your internet is running slower that normal, it may be due to this service being installed on your computer. Just uninstall the AOL HI-Q software, and everything should be fine. That’s what I get for not doing my research.
So, today I discovered something amazing! Granted, if I had to rank all the amazing things I’ve uncovered in my life, this one would rank very high on the list, but for today, “it’s gold Jerry!”

About this time last year, AOL launched a new broadband TV service, called In2Tv. This service allows you to watch reruns of old shows like “Perfect Strangers”, “I Spy”, “Chico and the Man,” “Growing Pains,” “Head of the Class”, and many others. They’ve got a lot of cartoons from back in the day like “Smurfs,” “Tom and Jerry,” “The Jetsons,” even “ThunderCats.” They’ve got things broken down into categories like Animated, Comedy, Looney Tunes, First Episodes, and even a Secret Agent category. Personally, my favorite thing to watch so far is, “Who’s the Boss?” Ay oh, oh ay!

Today wasn’t the first I had heard of In2TV, but it was today was the first time I realized some of the shows could be downloaded at DVD-quality. You have to download a piece of software, and be using Internet Explorer 6 and Windows Media Player 10 to watch the DVD-quality shows, but I guess that’s a fair trade-off to see a high-quality rerun of “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.,” or Bill Cosby carrying a gun in “I Spy.” If you don’t care what quality you watch the show in, you can use and browser(Firefox, Opera, Safarai) you want, plus you have a larger selection to choose from.

AOL also offers the ability to purchase and download newer episodes of TV shows, and even movies. They won’t be playable on your iPod, so if that’s what you’re looking for, then just stick with iTunes. I don’t I will ever be using this site to purchase anything, but it is fun to fire up an episode of the “Smurfs,” or “ThunderCats” everyonce in a while. It really brings back the childhood mems of wanting to be a cat with super powers, or my complete distaste for that nasty old Gargamel and constant scheming to take down those innocent Smurfs. Check it out,… and reminisce.
